Building your dream house is expensive, but then again, it’s not everyday that you get the chance to build your humble abode. But there are certain things which provide both, value for money and value for your home. T111 sidings (called T one eleven siding) are easy on your pocket and tough on your home exteriors to shield your home from outside adversities. T111 siding was especially popular during the 70’s and 80’s. Their ease of use and comparatively cheaper prices gave them an advantage over others.
T-111 Siding is made from plywood and hence doesn’t have the real wood look but still is better than vinyl or aluminum sidings. It is basically made by compressing wood and other materials together and gives that woody finish to your exterior without the heavy costs incurred with wood sidings. Also, it is lighter as compared to wood sidings and takes less amount of time and effort while installation.
T111 sidings come untreated and before installation, they require painting and staining in order to increase their life and provide maximum resistance. The grooved sheets seal once they are nailed together but in order to keep the water out, one need to install around their top and bottom edges caulking, flashing and trim. The option of painting allows you to let your creative juices flow wild as you can have your desired color or look for your home exterior than having being forced to select from the options available in other sidings.
But the advantages of T111 sidings are accompanied by its disadvantages as well, which effectively arise from the very sources that make it a viable choice. Being made by compression and other materials and not wood itself, it may be easier to handle, but it odes not provide the kind of protection that wood does. It tends to crack easily and the only protection it has the painting and installation done by you. It is vulnerable too water and moisture and can rot badly if moisture content increases. One also doesn’t have the option of changing only the rotted portions as the water caused rotting tends to spread to all areas, even inside the installations. Such problems are caused even by excessive heat. Basically, T111 siding is not suited for extreme weather conditions and cannot provide adequate resistance in such cases.
T111 sidings are therefore best suited for barns and sheds, which do not require much protection and an inexpensive siding would do the deal.
To increase the life of T111 sidings and make it more resistant to adverse weather conditions, a good amount of care is required. Periodic painting or staining and renewal of installations can help. Also, the caulking and trim should be regularly checked.
Sidings are somewhat like the first impression for your home. A person who looks at your house by default scans the siding first. Apart from that, sidings are the protection shield for your home and therefore tits important to install an appropriate siding. T111 siding is cheap and easy to handle and with proper amount of care, it can last long enough to serve your home.
